About the School Psychologist
Kelly G. Mitchell, MA/SSP, LPA/HSP-PA
Thank you for visiting! My name is Kelly G. Mitchell and I am the school psychologist currently serving Thompson Early Childhood Center (TECC). I completed my undergraduate study at Campbell University, where I majored in both Psychology and English, before completing my graduate work at Appalachian State University. I have worked in the Onslow County School system since 2012, completing my internship here before continuing employment as a fully-licensed psychologist.
Early childhood is such an exciting time for students because this is when their journey to learning truly begins. This is the time when they first discover that they can make things happen, that problem-solving methods can generalize across time and situations, and that their actions and choices impact both their lives and the lives of others. It is key at this age to not only focus on early academic concepts, but also the skills that will make them successful in daily interactions with others, perform tasks for themselves as independently as possible, and learn coping strategies that will help them grow into resilient and emotionally capable people.
